OHFA is committed to the safe and ongoing operations
of health and fitness facilities
Health and fitness clubs are clean and safe.
When members returned to their clubs after the COVID-19 shutdown, they looked different than they did prior to the pandemic. Clubs across the state have adjusted their operations and implemented stringent measures to protect the health and safety of patrons and staff.
Health and fitness clubs provide important mental and physical health benefits to Oregonians during challenging times.
During these difficult times, health and fitness clubs contribute to the overall physical and mental health of Oregonians, many of whom are struggling with things like anxiety, depression and isolation. Clubs want to help their members maintain their physical and mental health during this public health crisis.
Health and fitness clubs provide community-based jobs for thousands of Oregonians.
Oregon’s health and fitness clubs employ nearly 21,000 workers, nearly all of whom lost their jobs when clubs were shut down at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. Many clubs provided opportunities for their members to provide financial support for their workers, yet many fitness professionals are still under employed.
Health and fitness centers are more than “just a gym.”
Many health and fitness clubs provide a variety of services that benefit the wellness of the entire family including childcare, physical therapy, personal and small group training, restaurants, indoor and outdoor pools, fitness classes, spas, indoor and outdoor tennis, pickle ball and outdoor activities. Many of these services play a vital role in the daily lives of Oregonians across the state.
